Beginning Readers Workshop

  • Watauga County Library 140 Queen Street Boone, NC, 28607 United States (map)

Location: The Evelyn Johnson Meeting Room
Light Refreshments provided

This program is designed for parents and care-givers to learn tips about reading instruction for their child.

During the workshop Laurie will ask parents to come up front (or however we're arranged) with their child so Laurie can fit the child to a book level and model some ways to lift the child into a book so he or she can feel successful reading it or "pretend-reading" it. There are many support-reading methods that PreK and kindergarten teachers use every day to lift children into easy books like the ones we now have for check-out at our library.

Learn about our Little Readers with Reading Specialist Laurie Gill. When children have more opportunities to share their successes in the home, they enhance their confidence and self-esteem. In addition, they both gain valuable reading and writing practice, which is essential for struggling readers.
